I didn't know that Subaru offered an ash tray delete for the 98-01 Subaru Impreza (and Foresters) until a few years ago. As soon as I saw a picture of one online, I wanted one. It took me a while to source the oem part# (66245fc000) only to learn that they were discontinued:/ I setup an alert on eBay for the part# and for nearly 3 years nothing came up. Every other week I would also search for additional terms (ie "radio trim", "gc8 pocket", "gc8 cubby", and "gc8 ash tray") to see if I'd get lucky. It finally paid off.
I ended up finding a radio trim piece listed that had the rare cubby installed instead of an ash tray. It was beat up, expensive, and in another country (Canada), but I still bought it for $112 USD all in. I was sick of looking. I had intentions of potentially making a replica for my car and selling a few. And that is just what I did.
I don't have a 3d scanner. I designed everything by taking measurements and trial/error using tinkercad. It's not an exact replica. I think I made some improvements to it. The pocket opening is about 2mm taller. It also snaps into the bezel in a more secure way. I went through 11 revisions until I was happy with it. When it comes off the printer, the face of it needs to be sanded, primered and painted to give it an OEM look. I also line the bottom of it with a small piece of foam padding. This will hopefully provide some friction on acceleration to keep your phone/wallet in place.

While the factory ash tray slides out easily, there is a metal plate above it that is harder to remove. It's held in by 3 screws and the only way to get to them is to remove the radio trim surround.
If you ever have to remove it, you will need to remove the radio trim surround again. The two plastic tabs it locks under can be pulled up carefully with your hand or a screwdriver. Then it will slide back out. If for some reason your plastic tabs are damaged, I left a flat spot on the back bottom part of the cubby where you could use a piece of 3m double sided tape.
I've got three of these available for purchase right now as of 01/26/2026. One of them is listed on eBay too (seller 802projects). They take 5 hours to print and another hour to sand/primer/paint. I will be selling them for $45 shipped in the US. Outside the US will be $40 + shipping.. I'm also open to selling them raw for people who would like to pay less and sand/paint them on their own.
Sorry I will not. I had published my cabin filter bracket for people to do just this. I didn't mind if someone printed their own or for a friend. I would sell to people without a 3d printer. However almost immediately I found myself in competition with someone else (actually a big company) selling covers I had designed on ebay. To this day they are still selling them and have had over 50 sales:/ So unfortunately the answer is NO and will always be NO.
These are printed with Elegoo ABS filament. This is the same material I use for my cabin filter covers. I use ABS because of it's heat rating. I ran some in the oven at 190 degrees to simulate a car parked in the sun in Texas and there was zero deformation or softening. If I were to do this with PLA or other plastics, the plastic would start to shrink, sag and deform. I scared myself when I did the original oven test. I forgot the first few black versions I printed (v5 and v6) were done in PLA as thats all I had on hand. I switched over to ABS for v7. On my initial oven test I stuck the v6 cover in the oven and I had sagging and deformation. That scared me enough into ordering a roll of ASA only for me to come to realization what I had done. I checked the print history and sure enough, v6 was done with PLA settings. I also confirmed it was PLA by rubbing the plastic with a paper towel soaked in acetone. ABS only reacts to ABS plastic. On the v6 cover the towel was clean. On the ABS covers the towel turns black. I've since done an additional oven test with the v9 and v11 covers which are ABS plastic. They look perfect.
So far, only one person has asked for this. The example photo they sent shows something that sticks out from the pocket which I don't think a lot of people would want. I think I could do a deeper skinny slot to hold a phone. There would also be room underneath it for a potential wireless charger. I don't know if it would work through the plastic though (in addtion to a potential phone cover) so I ordered a cheap eBay one to do some testing. I may have to design it so the charging pad goes inside the cubby vs under it. We'll see.
